Aperture and depth of field

Aperture is hole within a lens through which light travels into the camera
how aperture effects exposure

  • Aperture has several effects on your photograph including brightness
  • large aperture - lot of light
  • small aperture - small lot of of light
depth of field - focus part of your photo
shallow depth of field - background completely out of focus - portrait

apertures are expressed as F stops
wide aperture - lot of blur

very blurring
highest aperture - 29.1

Shutter speed - amount of time that the shutter is open
ISO - measure of digital camera sensors

shutter speed:

  • changing exposure of image
  • creating dramatic effects
  • motion blur
  • fast shutter speed can stop motion
if we had a camera set on 1/80 shutter speed, it will let in a lot of light.
how do we darken the image?
Have a smaller aperture.
